5 ways to celebrate World Cat Day
Cats hold a special place in our hearts, and on August 08, we celebrate their company on World Cat Day! In this article, we'll cover the history of this day, the importance of cats in our lives, and share five ways to honor our feline friends on this special occasion.
A little history
World Cat Day was established in 2002 by the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) to raise awareness of the importance of cat welfare and protection. This non-governmental organization was originally founded in Canada to stop the commercial hunting of harp seals... and is now one of the world's leading animal protection organizations!
Since then, August 8 has become a day of worldwide celebration of cats and the unique role they play in our lives.
What is this day all about?
The day was originally introduced to encourage cat owners to care for their four-legged companions. As a result, organizations and associations were encouraged to set up various awareness-raising actions to encourage cat adoption. And today, thanks to the rise of social networks, owners and enthusiasts are taking advantage of this day to post funny (or cute 🥰 ) photos and videos of their kitty!
The unique bond with cats
Cats have a fascinating ability to create strong bonds with their human companions. In fact, their independent yet affectionate nature blends extremely well into the daily life of someone looking for companionship, who also wants to keep their personal space.
Cats communicate their emotions in a charming and elegant way. Whether it's a gentle head collision, a soothing purr, a playful "chase"... 😹
Plenty of research shows that interacting with cats can reduce levels of stress, anxiety, and emotional fatigue. It's even said that moments of cuddling with your cat can effectively combat our negative energies.
Even better? Veterinarian Jean-Yves Gauchet is quoted as saying that the vibrations of feline purring help reduce... jetlag!
5 great ways to honor them on this special day
Adopt or Foster temporarily Try to adopt a cat from a shelter, association or rescue organization. Be careful before committing yourself. If you don't think you can make a long-term commitment, why not consider temporary fostering? Fostering cats gives you the opportunity to play an extremely important role in their lives. Fostering is the step between rescue and permanent adoption. Your role? To comfort them. To care for them. Give them temporary care and help them socialize for their final adoption.
Pamper them! Give your beloved feline his favorite toys, treats or a cozy new spot to relax. On this special day, don't hesitate to spoil them even more. They deserve it, don't they? 😏
Share your love Whether on your blog, your social networks, your family... share adorable photos of your cat, funny moments, moving stories, or even interesting facts about cats in general!Don't forget to add the hashtag #JournéeMondialeduChat (and the #Caremitou of course 😇).
Volunteer If you can, why not support local animal shelters by offering your time and skills to help care for cats in need?
Health check What could be more important than the health of your companion? On this very special day, you can make sure he's in good health, for example by making an appointment with your Veterinarian.
Alternatively, if you're not sure whether to give him a new toy or take him to the vet (and he's not sure he'll appreciate it...), why not give him his very first connected grooming house? Keep track of your cat's health directly from your home with our Caremitou eHealth litterbox! You can monitor the hours of use, weight, frequency of use (the number of times your cat goes to the litter box), duration of use, weight of waste, temperature... all these variables from your smartphone, and save your cat the stress of a visit to the vet... isn't that great?
Conlcusion
World Cat Day is a great way to spoil your pet, it's true. But above all, it should serve as a reminder to owners.
A reminder of the place cats play in our lives, and the well-being they bring to our daily lives.
In return, it's simply the duty of all of us to look after their well-being. To show them our gratitude, and give them all the love and attention they need.
Whether you're a seasoned cat owner or a simple admirer, World Cat Day is an opportunity to join a global community and celebrate our favorite companions together!
